Ministry Opportunities at Living Word
We are active in many ministries and pursuing new opportunities to meet the Mankato area community. Ministries either equip and edify the body of Christ (in-reach) or proclaim the Gospel with and without words through acts of service and mercy (outreach). There is a place for you and your heart for ministry at Living Word!
Calling Laborers for the Kingdom! Relaunch Ministry opportunities:
Relaunch is an initiative to launch Living Word Mankato as a new church to proclaim the Gospel to the Mankato community. The hard work of building a church is a rewarding blessing as we find unity in the work of the Kingdom of God. We believe God is calling and equipping people to this task. Relaunch consists of:
Regular outreach events
Monthly worship “preview” services (June 2nd, July 7th, August 4th)
Weekly evening fellowship nights on Sundays at 6pm (except 6/2, 7/7, 8/4). We are studying the Bible and teaching through the challenges of building a church on a firm and healthy foundation.
Launch service on Sunday, September 8th!
Opportunities to serve:

Women’s Bible Study 9am Thursdays (On Break for the Summer)
As women, our lives can be so busy, and it can seem almost impossible to find time to invest in either friendships or Bible study. This is a group for women of all ages to come together and be encouraged and grow in their faith walk together. While we focus on looking to the truth of God’s Word to speak to our lives, there is no greater joy than the fellowship of growing into Christ together!
We’re a friendly group who enjoy our time together. For more information, come by and visit us on Thursdays @ 9am or contact us for information on our current study.
Busy moms: childcare arrangements are available- contact us!
Women’s Missionary Federation (WMF)
The purpose of the WMF is to awaken and deepen interest in and love for the kingdom of God, at home and abroad, thus sharing in the great missionary enterprise of the Christian Church. We dedicate ourselves to the great commission of the Lord Jesus Christ when He said, “Go in to all the world, and preach the gospel to all creation” (Mark 16 :15).
We are open to all women interested in studying the Bible, furthering mission work around the world, and supporting the ministries of the WMF. Meetings are held on a monthly basis after the women’s Bible study.
Insight: Bible Project at Word of Life (Coming Soon)
“Insight” is an upcoming weekly ministry event which explores the world of the Bible through the vivid imagery of The Bible Project. We will pray together, study the Bible, deal with hard questions, and sing praises to God. Whether you just are interested in learning about Jesus’ story or you’ve made His story part of your own, you are welcome here.
The Bible Project is a non-profit animation studio that produces short animated videos to make the biblical story accessible to everyone, everywhere. They create videos that walk through the unified narrative of the Bible, book-by-book, and theme-by-theme, concisely treating major theological features of the story with compelling artistry. Stay tuned for details!
Foundations of the Faith - Confirmation
Foundations of the Faith is a one-on-one time to explore the authority of Scripture, the Ten Commandments, the Apostles’ Creed, Lord’s Prayer, the Sacraments, some Lutheran confessional writings, and the principles of the free church movement, all with a focus on Law and Gospel.
Lessons are introduced with a Bible passage intended to lead students into discussion topics. The core of each lesson is the study of Scripture as it applies to the topic. Lessons are written in such a way as to allow freedom and flexibility for Pastor Chris to teach to the student through discussion, collaboration, inquiry, reading, and writing. The lessons are modeled after a Cornell notes format in which students are encouraged to ask questions and write summaries of learning.
Contact Pastor Chris for questions and scheduling.
Free Lutheran Ministries
Our Bible COllege (AFLBS)
AFLBS is a two-year Bible college designed to help students know and understand God’s Word and apply it to their lives. As students study the Bible, they grow in their relationship with God, develop life-long friendships, and learn to serve God with their lives.
Our Seminary (AFLTS)
Since 1964, AFLTS has been preparing servant pastors for free and living Lutheran congregations. AFLTS offers a Master of Divinity (M.Div) degree in a three-year classroom format and one-year internship.
Seminary training at AFLTS includes three years of classroom instruction on a beautiful campus in suburban Minneapolis. The fourth year includes a one-year congregation-based internship in a Free Lutheran congregation, with an experienced AFLC pastor as supervisor.
The ARC (The Association Retreat Center)
The ARC is located in northwestern Wisconsin along the beautiful St. Croix River Valley just 45 minutes from the Minneapolis-St Paul Metropolitan area. In 1979, the AFLC bought the abandoned radar base to be used as a summer Bible Camp. Over the years, the ARC continued to expand its offerings and is now a year-round, full service camp and retreat center with five main meeting rooms, a full-service kitchen, a man-made swimming lake and the ability to lodge up to 600 guests.
The ARC exists to glorify Jesus Christ by providing a place where people can be equipped to make a positive difference in their lives, homes, churches, and communities. Throughout the year, the ARC hosts both faith-based and non-faith based groups. Family Camps, Bible Camps, craft and quilt groups, recovery groups and athletic groups are just a few examples of groups that find the ARC a great place to ‘Come Away and Rest Awhile’ for retreats, conferences, camps and other events.
